Boys Varsity TennisCongratulations to the players today for locking up the SAC regular season championship this afternoon with their 7-1 win over cross-town rival K Christian. Never gets old beating the Comets! Really solid play today up and down the line-up winning all 7 matches in straight sets. There were times today at 2S, early in the 4S match, in the 2D 1st set and at 3D where the guys could’ve tightened up and played tentative tennis. We have been working hard at practice to NOT do that when these situations arise; the guys did a nice job playing through those situations today. The regular season conference championship accounts for 50%, while the conference tournament Friday accounts for the other 50%. Hoping to earn that on Friday! Complete results from today below: Hackett def. K Christian 7-1 1S: Tommy Kling def. Ethan West (10) 6-0, 6-0 2S: Niklas Johansson def. Ethan Verkaik (12) 6-3, 6-4 3S: Marcus Alcaraz lost

Boys Varsity TennisCoach DeForest & I are SUPER happy with how the guys performed on Friday. Great showing up & down the line-up. 6 flight Champions & 1 Runner-Up! We ended the day watching Tommy Kling playing his heart out losing a close match in the #1 Singles final to Allegan’s Eli Festerling in a great high school tennis match! That was high-level. Best match of Tommy’s high school career and it is likely he will get one more shot at him on Friday. At #2 Singles Niklas won the flight doing what he does….steady, consistent tennis with a lot of variety that wins A LOT of matches. Andrew was dominant at 4S, winning his flight not dropping more than 3 games in any set. He is striking the ball extremely well right now! Our doubles teams all certainly showed up as well. In 12 total doubles matches, we dropped one set on the day. Great stuff in all flights. Complete flight & team results below: &nbs

Boys Varsity TennisGood 6-2 team win today against an always tough, #7 ranked Allegan team. Gritty efforts from Niklas Johansson who earned a straight set win at 2S & Andrew Alcaraz who after dropping the 1st set, came back and won the 2nd, and then went on to win his match after his opponent retired (injury) up 2-1 in the 3rd. Hats off to our doubles teams today who swept all four flights. BIG shout out to our 3D team Chris & Jimmy, who played their best match of the year today winning a competitive straight set match that was the decisive win in the overall team match. Proud of those guys! Complete results below: #4 HCP def. #7 Allegan 6-2 1S: Tommy Kling lost to Eli Festerling (12) 6-3, 6-2 2S: Niklas Johansson def. Boys Varsity Tennis vs. Portage Northern High School
Boys Varsity TennisReal nice job by the guys this afternoon rebounding from Monday’s disappointing loss earning an 8-0 win over Portage Northern. Coach DeForest & I really challenged the players at yesterday’s practice to make an effort to play a more aggressive, and thus more confident ‘brand’ of tennis in today’s match and as we move forward in the season. They did a nice job of this today winning all matches in straight sets. We came out fast today dominating all 1st sets, then Portage Northern settled in a bit and made the 2nd sets in several matches much more contested. The good news is we were able to grind out wins in all those closer 2nd sets, a good sign late in the year! Again, good work by the players today! Nice to have Patrick back off the I.R. and see him playing again today too! Complete results below: HCP def. Portage Northern 8-0 1S: Tommy Kling def. Kirby Bach 6-2, 6-0 2S: Niklas Joh

Boys Varsity Tennis vs. Portage Central High School
Boys Varsity TennisLost a tightly contested 5-3 match to Portage Central this afternoon. Credit to them, they did what they needed to to win. This is one I thought we could have won had we competed better in spots. We will continue to work and improve! Very nice work from Niklas Johansson today at 2S picking up a straight set win and moving to 12-1 on the year. Our 4D team, Grahm Zygadlo & David Verduzco remains unbeaten this year gutting out a close 1st set today en route to cruising through the 2nd set and improving to 13-0. Best match and gut check of the day went to our 2D team of Rafael Deleon & Owen Brown. After winning the first set, they dropped the 2nd set decisively and things were not going their way getting down 3-0 in the 3rd. They then played their best tennis of the year in winning 6 straight games and the 3rd set and match 6-3 in the 3rd. Great effort by all these guys! Today’s loss sting

Boys Varsity Tennis vs. NorthPointe Christian School
Boys Varsity TennisGR NorthPointe Christian has a very solid team every year. They are a consistent top 10 team in the state with this year’s team coming in to today ranked 8th., and being no exception. We were able to come out of there today with a 7-1 win, but the match was much closer than the score indicated. Hats off to Tommy who played a rock-solid 3rd set to secure his win at 1S 6-1 in the 3rd. Marcus had a strong performance at 3S today as well winning in straight sets. On the doubles side our #1 team of Luke Toweson & Jude Coffman has been dominant as of late! After dropping their first match of the year they have rattled off 11 straight, straight set wins. They have been outstanding! Our schedule does not get any softer with Portage Central & Portage Northern slated for next week. Complete results from today below: HCP def. Boys Varsity Tennis vs. Zeeland East, Jenison, GR Christian
Boys Varsity TennisProud of our guys coming out of there 3-0 yesterday! Overall, we competed very well. There are still some areas of opportunity in which we need to be better, and we will continue to address those and try to close those gaps as we move forward. But to go 18-6 on the day and beat those three teams 6-2 each was a very solid effort. 5 of our 8 flights (2S, 4S, 1D, 2D & 4D) went 3-0 on the day, and Tommy our #1 singles player who gets the TOUGH assignment every match of playing the best player from the opposing school’s team also played very well going 2-1.
